Multiple people were shot on 17th Street near Atlantic Station in northwest Atlanta on Saturday night, according to Atlanta police. Zyion Charles was named as the young man who died from a gunshot wound that also injured five other young men after a large group of people got into an argument.
Police said this was the result of a fight between a group of youth and young adults that resulted in gun violence but have not yet identified any suspects or victims. The incident, according to police, took place on 17th Street outside of Atlantic Station.

One of those individuals has been verified by police to be dead. Zyion Charles, 12, was identified by the boy’s relatives. Police first reported that five people had been injured. The condition of a second victim was critical.
Around 8 p.m. At m., Atlanta police responded to a report of multiple gunshot victims and proceeded to 1371 Market Street. A group of teenagers was led out of Atlantic Station by security guards and an off-duty Atlanta police officer, according to police, due to their “disorderly behavior.” According to police, one factor contributed to the eventual eruption of gunfire.

At a press conference Sunday, Mayor Dickens revealed that several of the other parties involved, including a victim who is in serious condition, were children from Atlanta Public Schools. He added that all those involved were teenagers. Dickens emphasized the increased police presence that was present at Atlantic Station the night of the incident. He also stressed how crucial it is for parents to know where their children are at all times.
The mayor said that in expressing his condolences to the victim’s parents, he heard from some of them that they didn’t know his children were in Atlantic Station, let alone that there was a curfew there. According to police, due to the disorderly behavior of the large group and known area curfew violations, off-duty APD officers and Atlantic Station staff escorted them off the property. The people involved are believed to be between the ages of 15 and 21, according to Lt. Germain Dearlove, homicide commander for the Atlanta Police Department. He claimed that there could be at least two shooters present. Police urge anyone with video of the incident to turn it over to Atlanta police.
