Texas BMX legend Wesley Don-Johle has shot himself at his Rowett home after allegedly killing an employee at his famed bike shop in Garland, Texas. Don-Johle, 58, was found dead at his home shortly after another employee found the body of his deceased employee, James Kincheloe, 40, in the bike shop.

The employee, Preston, who discovered the homicide informed the police that when he arrived to open the store, he found the doors were locked. However, the internal metal doors were open. Garland police said there were “no signs of forced entry” and the death was being investigated “as a homicide.” The security video provided enough evidence to point to Don-Johle as the alleged killer.

Daisy McKee, Kincheloe’s wife, and mother of her two young children said they were shocked by the death of her husband. In an interview with WFAA, she said, “I didn’t know Don was an angry or sad person.” She further said her husband worked at the bike shop for decades and was “treated like family.” When the Garland Police Department arrived at Don-Johle’s home with a felony warrant for his arrest, they found the 50-time National BMX winner dead with an alleged self-inflicted wound.

The Garland Police Department, in its official police press release on Twitter, stated: “Members of the Garland SWAT unit served a felony warrant for his arrest at Mr. John’s home in Rowlett and discovered him killed inside the house from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot. wound.” Lt. Richard Maldonado of the Garland Police Department said, “Garland detectives are not looking for anyone else involved in the incident.” The investigation is ongoing. It remains to be seen what else will emerge in the coming days. Police have not released any photos of Wesley Don-Johle from the day of the incident.

About Don Johle

With a stellar feat of 50 BMX national titles to his name and over 500 race victories, Don-Johle was one of the most famous BMX racers in the US. After retiring in 1985, he opened a bike shop in her hometown of Garland, where her mother also owned it. He was one of the first seven Hall of Famers to be inducted into the Texas BMX Hall of Fame.

Don-Johle was not only a celebrated BMX racer but also tried his hand at other sports, such as jet ski racing. He also maintained his champion streak there, as he won regional championships and recorded his name as one of the top ten runners in aquatics.
