An inquest is due to take place into the tragic death of a 20-month-old girl who starved to death after her mother left her alone for six days while celebrating her birthday in London with her boyfriend.
Asiah Kudi was abandoned by her mother Verphy Kudi, who left for London, Coventry, and Solihull, where she partyed for six days to celebrate her 18th birthday in December 2019. Verphy Kudi was then jailed for nine years in August 2021 after admitting to a manslaughter charge at Lewes Crown Court. The pre-inquest hearing also reviewed CCTV footage from Kudi’s home which showed her leaving Asiah alone in the apartment for five days, 21 hours and 58 minutes. Prosecutor Sally Howes QC said her mother flew to London on December 5, where she celebrated her birthday with her boyfriend. Kudi returned to the flat at 3:38 p.m. on December 11.
