In March, they were convicted guilty at the Old Bailey. Balakrishnan was sentenced as well after pleading guilty to a charge of causing severe bodily harm with intent in connection with an attack on an inmate while on remand.
The victim suffered severe brain damage as a result of the July attack. When Balakrishnan and Suleiman attacked Rishmeet, he slipped and collapsed. The vicious attack lasted 27 seconds, and the teenager’s body was left on the ground as the two escaped. The 16-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. He was found to be a victim of mistaken identity. The ‘completely innocent victim’ aspired to be a police officer. The judge described Rishmeet as “an entirely innocent victim” who arrived in the UK with his mother and grandmother in 2019.

Two thugs who murdered an Afghan refugee in a mistaken identity attack after he’d fled to Britain
They fled Afghanistan after the Taliban assassinated Rishmeet’s father and attempted to capture the adolescent. Rishmeet was a caregiver for his polio-stricken mother, and his family relied on him for English translation. “All who knew Rismeet spoke very fondly of him,” stated Judge Sarah Munro. “It defies belief that you two sought him out to kill him.”
Friends characterized him as “a good person who would not harm a fly,” “pure of heart,” and “a humble guy.” He was in college and aspired to be a police officer. “Rishmeet was my only child, and he had his entire life ahead of him,” his mother Gulinder said. “I feel I have lost everything, and my life is over.”Rishmeet was well-liked by everyone who knew him; he was a devoted youngster with a kind attitude.
“I will never recover from this heinous crime.” “I’ve already lost my husband, and now I’ve lost my only child, my son.”Rishmeet has finally received justice, but their penalty will never be enough for me. “They have taken my entire life away from me, and Rishmeet will never return.”On the night of the murder, the couple rode their motorcycles to a rival gang’s territory with two blades, a “terrifying” three-foot-long machete, and a Rambo knife purchased online days before.

The perpetrators were identified by their clothing
They donned COVID masks and hoods to conceal their identity. The court was told that they had planned a “glide” – an attack on hostile gang territory. Balakrishnan and Suleiman chased Rishmeet and his pals through a park and “ferociously attacked” Rishmeet when he stumbled and fell, mistaking them for members of the rival gang. A member of the public called the police and doctors, but Rishmeet died at the site.
He received “unsurvivable” stab wounds to the head and chest. The perpetrators were seen escaping on CCTV and were identified by their clothing. After fleeing, the two gang members from Hillingdon, west London, changed their clothes at a gang-safe house and took a taxi back to their houses. Balakrishnan uploaded a photo of the blood-splattered murder weapon on social media following the incident.
Following his detention, police also discovered a notebook with drill rap lyrics celebrating the murder. Judge Sarah Munro also detailed the heinous deeds of Balakrishnan and Suleiman before and after Rishmeet’s murder. After accumulating debts to gang leaders, the two were forced into Class A narcotics peddling. Balakrishnan received a referral order in February 2021 for possessing a Rambo knife.
