Just before 7 p.m. on Wednesday, police were summoned to the River Calder in Castleford, West Yorkshire, in response to concerns for the safety of a male in the water. There had been reports from the scene of someone in distress in the water and onlookers screaming for assistance.
Officers were joined by additional emergency service members along the river, and a body was retrieved around 8.30 p.m. The boy’s family has been notified, according to West Yorkshire Police. “Police were called to the River Calder off Leeds Road, Castleford, at 6.58 pm this evening (Wednesday, 24 May) to a report of a concern for the safety of a male in the water,” a police spokesperson said.
