Travis Carlson, 37, a Minnesota landlord allegedly blasted Billy Joel’s ‘We Didn’t Start The Fire’ while torching his own home with his renter inside.
Travis Carlson is accused of setting fire to his Duluth residence on May 18 and has been charged with first-degree arson, according to court filings. Officers were dispatched to the 2400 block of Fourth Street just after 4 a.m. and discovered the upstairs flat on fire while the music played. Carlson is accused of pouring petrol from his car to fuel the fire before knocking on the door of his downstairs tenant to inform them that ‘the house is on fire’.
He was arrested the next day after being discovered with ‘new burn injuries’ to his arms and legs and is currently being held at the St Louis County jail. His bail is set at $75,000. The downstairs tenant reported hearing Carlson’smashing glass and shattering items’ upstairs for about 20 minutes at about 3 a.m. Carlson then knocked on their door and informed them that their “house is on fire.”

Travis Carlson Arrested
A neighbor contacted 911 after seeing the landlord wearing a helmet and smashing his own windows. He claimed to have seen Carlson ‘under his truck with petrol cans, going in and out of the house’ before witnessing ‘a flash as a fireball erupts from the upstairs flat.’ The fire investigation discovered a hole drilled in the landlord’s gas tank with a drill lying nearby, as well as lids to gas cans resting on the ground near the truck.
According to the probable cause statement, several portions of the upstairs flat had green liquid lines from the burning accelerant staining furniture, carpeting, and walls. In addition, several wires had been taken from the house’s electrical system in the basement. The downstairs renter was not wounded in the fire, but they were forced to leave their home. Carlson may face up to 20 years in jail if convicted on the felony charge. He bought the property in 2005 and rented out the basement space while living upstairs in the 1901 structure.
