Thomas Webb Jurgens, 28, was one of nearly two dozen people arrested Sunday in what police described as a “coordinated attack” on the still-under-construction Atlanta Public Safety Training Center dubbed “Cop City”.
A lawyer with the Southern Poverty Law Center is among 23 protesters who have been charged with domestic terrorism after they allegedly threw Molotov cocktails and fireworks at a future Atlanta police training facility, police said Monday.

Jurgens is a staff attorney for SPLC, the left-leaning anti-hate group, according to the Georgia State Bar Association and its since-deleted LinkedIn page.
Police said most of those arrested are from other parts of the US, as well as France and Canada. A handful of protesters could be seen smirking in their mugshots released by authorities Monday afternoon.
The SPLC did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment in the wake of Jurgens’ arrest. In all, 35 “violent rioters” were captured after they attacked the future site of the $90 million police training facility, police said.
It was not immediately clear if the rest of those arrested will also be charged with domestic terrorism. The ordeal unfolded when protesters began throwing Molotov cocktails, fireworks, rocks and bricks at officers during the demonstration.
Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum described the blast as “coordinated” and said multiple construction equipment caught fire at the 85-acre site on the outskirts of the city. Surveillance video captured towering plumes of smoke and flames billowing from the site after heavy equipment caught fire, as well as officers appearing to duck for cover as items were thrown their way.
The Georgia Department of Public Safety said some protesters also tried to blind officers by pointing green lasers into their eyes. “This was a very violent attack, a very violent attack,” Schierbaum said at a midnight news conference.
“This was not a public safety training center. It was about lawlessness… and we are addressing it quickly.” Several law enforcement agencies from neighboring areas were called in to help quell the violence, Schierbaum added.He said the agents used non-lethal measures to make the arrests.
