Tatum Meins and Sherene Walema, the community of Kingman are mourning the deaths of two teenagers in a car accident, as well as the injuries of three others. The accident happened just before 10 p.m. Thursday at Louise Avenue and Sage Street, off Route 66.
The crash has shaken the community to its core. All of the adolescents involved attended the same high school in Kingman, and the two girls played softball. The remainder of the softball season and prom has been canceled by the school. The city of Kingman has changed. But family members are clutching each other even tighter after the deaths of Tatum Meins, 17, and Sherene Walema, 15.

Tatum Meins, 17, and Sherene Walema were 15 years old.
The remaining three students are currently hospitalized
Three 16-year-old boys were also in the car and were evacuated to a hospital in Las Vegas. According to investigators, one of the lads was driving when he began to slide sideways, striking two electric poles. Four of the teenagers were thrown from the vehicle, and the driver was stuck inside. According to police, speeding could be a role.
Meins’ family is close friends with Devon Cutshaw. She claims Meins was set to graduate in six weeks and had secured a softball scholarship offer with a university prior to the tragedy. “It’s like something out of a movie, like the worst-case scenario,” Cutshaw added. “It’s not proper to bury your friends.” They have to utilize the money they’ve been saving for graduation parties and other costly things to pay for her services.” Cutshaw stated that all five of the adolescents were extremely involved in sports at Lee Williams High School. “Someone has a connection to every single one of these families,” she explained.
The school’s spirit week running up to prom has been canceled, and the dance has been rescheduled for a later date. Students are also encouraged to wear school colors to show their support for their classmates on Thursday. When prom occurs, all proceeds will be donated to the five families. “Kingman knows how to love their people,” stated Cutshaw. While the community mourns, local businesses are conducting fundraisers to assist. Cutshaw says it’s incredible to see everyone banding together, but he understands the healing process is far from complete. “Unfortunately, they’re young, and I believe this will have an everlasting impact on their hearts and minds,” she said.
