Sydney Cole Wiki – Sydney Cole Biography
Sydney Cole, 23, faces a three-year sentence if convicted in the April 15, 2019 incident that left Corporal Sarah Garrity, 26, in intensive care after losing four pints of blood and needing 14 stitches in a neck wound.Cole, born in Hertfordshire, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and briefly jailed in Mallorca before being released pending an ongoing investigation.Today, the respected island newspaper Última Hora said she had been charged with bodily injury in an indictment brought before a court in Palma and that she faced a three-year prison sentence if found guilty at trial.Prosecutors in the Mallorcan capital drafted the indictment against her even though Sarah, 26, told Spanish authorities early on in the investigation that she did not want to press charges and waived her right to compensation.
The date of the trial has not yet been made public, but it is expected to take place before the end of the year. The latest development in the long-running case comes 18 months after it emerged that a Palma court had issued an international arrest warrant for Cole following failed attempts to inform her that she was wanted for a new questionnaire under oath.Judicial sources at the time said her indictment for the attack was “just a matter of time” and explained that the Palma judge who issued the order had decided to take action after she breached bail conditions by changing address without notify the Spanish authorities. It was not immediately clear if the arrest warrant was still in effect or if Cole, based at Fort George Barracks in Inverness when she was arrested, deactivated it by contacting court officials and making himself available for further questioning.

Soldier charged over ‘slashing pal’s throat’ in Magaluf during night out
The women’s squad was arrested for allegedly throwing a glass at her friend’s face after the pair paddled out at Banana’s Nightclub in Magaluf after an all-day drinking session. She insisted after her arrest that her vacation partner was injured in an accident when he threw the glass to the ground during a fight with her and fragments of it struck Sarah in the neck.Sarah, who was serving in the Royal Logistics Corps when she was seriously injured, told Spanish police after her discharge from hospital that she did not want to press charges.Ordinas, in his last comments on the case in November 2020 before turning over the files to a colleague, said state prosecutors had yet to charge Cole. But well-placed legal sources in Mallorca insisted at the time that they believed a trial was going to take place and that the case had simply been delayed by the coronavirus pandemic. One said: “Before state prosecutors charge her, Cole must be questioned again under oath.”
“The problem has been that the coronavirus pandemic has entered and it must be done by videoconference and it has been suspended on more than one occasion.’A date for the court examination has not yet been set. It could be another month or two months away. But it will happen and it is a simple bureaucratic formality that must precede the issuance of the indictment. Another added at the time: “I would expect state prosecutors to charge Cole with attempted murder given the coroner’s decision. That is punishable in Spain with a prison sentence of five to ten years.’The charge could be for misdemeanor wounding with a dangerous object although it would be unexpected.”But until the indictment is issued, no one can be 100 percent sure.” A relative of Sarah’s told Sunday People in early November 2020. 11 months later.A source told the newspaper: ‘Sarah told the police not to charge Cole because she didn’t want to see a girl beaten up in a foreign jail.
“She expected her to be full of remorse, but she didn’t even get an apology.” The source also claimed that Army chiefs told Sarah to “move on” when she asked them to consider moving Cole after she returned to work three months later to find her still at the Fort George barracks base.A member of Sarah’s family said: ‘We don’t feel like the Army took care of our little girl.’ Cole is said to have left after having a baby and receiving a house from the army.An army spokesman told the Sunday People at the time: “An investigation is underway following an incident with a British soldier in Spain last year.“We take our duty to care for staff very seriously. It would be inappropriate to comment further.Mallorcan prosecutors have always refused to make any official comment on the case, as is customary in Spain, where only trials are held in public and the judicial probe that precedes the open court hearing is carried out behind closed doors.
