Stanley Wilson Jr, a Former Detroit Lions player has died at the age of 40 in a mental health facility. The Detroit franchise’s defensive back was at Metropolitan State Hospital during his death earlier this month. Wilson Jr was the son of Stanley Wilson Sr, who was the running back for the Cincinnati Bengals. On and off in 1983-84, 1986 and 1988, he played for the Ohio franchise. After violating the NFL’s drug policy, he was suspended for entire seasons in 1985 and 1987.

In 1989, Bengals position coach Jim Anderson caught the player high on cocaine on the eve of Super Bowl XXII and was suspended for the game, in which Cincinnati lost. After his third drug offense, he was banned from the game for life. The player was then arrested and sentenced to 22 years in jail for a robbery at a Beverly Hills home in 1999.

Carrying one count of second-degree robbery and two counts of felony vandalism, Wilson was charged in 2022 after breaking into a $30 million Hollywood Hills mansion. On two separate occasions, the player damaged and moved items in the mansion on August 24, 2022, and most recently bathed in a fountain outside the house.

Died after collapsing at a mental hospital

The former NFL player reportedly died after collapsing in the facility during admission. “Foul play is not suspected,” according to sources quoted by TMZ, while “the results of the autopsy are pending from toxicology.”

The player’s death came months after his arrest on theft charges. Arrested on both occasions he allegedly broke into the home, Wilson caused $5,000 in damage after the open-air bath. On February 1, he was transferred to the mental hospital after he pleaded unfit to stand trial after residing in the Marion County Jail.

Career

In 2000, Wilson enrolled in Northern California High School and from 2001-2004 played for the Cardinal football team. With 32 games played in his career, Wilson was popular at Stanford University before the Lions drafted him.

In 2005, Wilson, who played three seasons, was selected in the third round of the NFL Draft by the Lions. In 2008, Wilson’s playing career went downhill after sustaining an Achilles tendon injury (an Achilles tendon injury). The incident took place during an exhibition game against New England.

While he was breaking into a Portland residence naked, a homeowner shot Wilson during his attempt and was later arrested. Similarly, he was arrested again after he broke into the house.
