Saul Jeremiah Tambago Rosenthal, an American student was allegedly killed by his friend in Bangkok when he told him not to draw a Nazi swastika on his forehead. Saul Jeremiah Tambago Rosenthal, 22, had been drinking with his Thai friend ‘Set’ at a restaurant in the Thai capital on Monday. But they started arguing when Set painted the German war symbol on his forehead and allegedly laughed at the image as he made lewd comments. Set’s actions irritated Saul, who confronted his friend in an alleyway where he tried to explain that the swastika was an offensive symbol associated with horrific crimes against humanity, but the conversation descended into a booze-fueled argument. Saul supposedly got mad at Set and tried to attack him, but the young Thai man retaliated and stabbed him with a short knife.

Saúl’s body was found shortly afterwards by a surprised passer-by who contacted emergency services. Paramedics struggled to revive the injured young man, but he succumbed to his injuries. Police Captain Kraisorn Inpuen from Wang Thong Lang District Police Station said: “At the scene, the team discovered the body lying on the ground. He was wearing a black T-shirt and blue jeans, and had two stab wounds on the left side of his chest. Officers said they detained Set, a mixed Thai and Filipino nationality, who was carrying a five-inch knife believed to be the murder weapon while he was “severely intoxicated.” They said they took him back to the police station because he was rambling and they couldn’t question him properly. Police said both men were students at Ramkhamhaeng University and were staying at a student residence in Bangkok. They also shared the same circle of friends. Police Capt. Kraisorn Inpuen said officers initially charged Set with intentional homicide and carrying a knife in public.
