She was found with multiple stab wounds when Rancho Cordova Police Department officers arrived at an address on Ramsgate Way in the city of Rancho Cordova after receiving a call. Despite his best efforts, Acosta could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene, The Sun reported. In a press release, the Rancho Cordova Police Department and Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office stated, “Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators responded to the scene shortly thereafter, interviewing witnesses and they gathered evidence. Based on their investigation, homicide detectives identified the suspect as 22-year-old Devian LEWIS.”

Suspect arrested after pursuit
The suspect was captured after the California Highway Patrol (CHP) along with other officers pursued him “through Sacramento south on Highway 99.” The statement noted: “During the pursuit, officers learned that LEWIS was armed. LEWIS exited west on Cosumnes River Boulevard and eventually headed into Elk Grove when the Elk Grove Police Department also stepped in to help. The chase came to an end in the town of Elk Grove, where an officer-involved shooting occurred during his arrest.”
Lewis is currently said to be in a hospital after being shot. The charges against him have not yet been revealed. “The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office is the lead investigating agency for the homicide that occurred in Rancho Cordova. The Elk Grove Police Department and the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office will be investigating the officer-involved shooting as it occurred within the Elk Grove city limits,” the news release added.
“Everyone wanted to be close to her”
Acosta’s grieving family remembers her as a “happy and daring person.” Her aunt, Ángela Martínez, told ABC10: “Always fun. Everyone wanted to be around her because she was the one dancing and living her life. It was a feeling I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. She was my baby even before I had babies. This definitely took a part of all of us,” before sharing, I was there the day she was born and have been there ever since. It’s definitely going to be difficult.”
Martinez added, “Every time you’re around her, you can’t be sad, you can’t be mad because she’s a nervous, cheerful, cheeky little person, because we can’t let go of the cheeky part of her. You put in R. Kelly, and that girl was dancing. You put on oldies, and she was singing. She was the life of the party.”
Saraiah Family asks for financial help
A GoFundMe has been launched to help the Acosta family. The fundraiser read: “On February 1, 2023, our beautiful Saraiah was tragically taken from us. As we all mourn the loss of her, we are asking for any help and/or donations to help us lay our beautiful angel to rest and also to help the family with the expenses they will incur as they begin their long journey with the grieving process. ”
“At this time we ask for privacy as the family mourns the sudden loss of Saraiah. Any help and support and all possible prayers are greatly appreciated. Once the funeral arrangements are finalized, we will update everyone,” she concluded.
