Samya Gill, an eight-month-pregnant model, was killed in Washington DC when two gunmen with weapons opened fire on a parked car she was sitting in with the child’s father.
Miraculously, her daughter was successfully delivered shortly after in an emergency C-section but is in critical condition. The child’s father also survived the attack. Samya Gill, 22, was in the passenger seat of a sedan parked in Southeast DC at around 11 am on Thursday when another car pulled up and two gunmen jumped out. Between the two they fired at least 14 rounds into the car, striking Gill and her child’s father, who was in the driver’s seat, but not the unborn child directly, police said. Surveillance footage showed the gunmen fleeing in the car they arrived in. Gill’s vehicle also left the scene but only traveled a few blocks before coming to a halt. EMS crews then took both victims to a hospital, where Gill gave birth but later died.
DC Police Assistant Chief Andre Wright described it as a ‘brazen attack’ and suggested it was targeted but was unable to identify a motive. He also appealed for information from witnesses, whom he suggested could be key to solving the case and released surveillance footage that shows the two suspects getting out of a white sedan and approaching Gill’s car with guns drawn. While none of these groups of folks are directly involved, we do believe that you can’t do something as heinous as this and the community not know something,’ he said during a press conference. This video was of great quality and so I’m confident that when this goes out into the community we will get calls that will enable us to further this case and inevitably close it,’ he said.

Pregnant mother, 22, was killed in DC, and her baby is in serious condition
The shooting happened outside of a McDonald’s in the 300 block of 37th Street SE, but the victims’ vehicle traveled around a mile north to the 3900 block of Minnesota Avenue. Photos of the scene show the car Gill had been in as riddled with bullets – at least 12 in the windshield and two in the driver’s side window. Gill’s mother, who did not want to be identified, told ABC 7News that her daughter was a model and had recently run her own online clothing boutique. ‘I just think she was in the car [at the] wrong place, wrong time,’ she said. ‘I’m crushed, I’m devastated of course. I’m lost, I’ve been all over the place.’
She confirmed that her granddaughter, which has been named Zailey, had been successfully delivered and that she had been with her in the hospital. She’s beautiful, I went to go see her last night and she’s just gorgeous,’ she said of the baby. ‘I just really hope they catch whoever did that to my daughter,’ she said. She also created a GoFundMe page to raise money to help cope with the financial burden imposed by the shooting. She described her daughter’s death as being the outcome of ‘senseless gun violence’. In a tribute to Gill on Facebook, a relative described her as a shy and caring woman. I can’t believe this happened to such a shy, quiet, caring young lady. Lord, please give my family the strength to get through this. RIP Samya, we will be a part of your baby’s life and show her these crazy family videos,’ they wrote. DC police have set a $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
