A suspect has been arrested in the murder of prominent Detroit synagogue leader Samantha Woll, who was found stabbed to death outside her home last month, police announced Wednesday. Police said they responded to a 911 call about an unresponsive person around 6:30 a.m. m. Woll had been at a wedding the night before and left around 12:30am. m., according to the police and his friends. Police believe she was stabbed inside before stumbling away and fatally wounded. Throughout the investigation, White has insisted there was no evidence to suggest the murder was the result of a hate crime. “We believe that this particular incident was not motivated by anti-Semitism, and that this suspect acted alone,” White told reporters at a news conference on Oct. 23, saying investigators were “close” to naming to the suspect. He said at the time that there were “several factors” that led to that conclusion, but declined to comment further. Woll’s murder devastated Detroit’s Jewish community, which had already faced deadly Hamas attacks against Israel. The beloved 40-year-old activist had led the synagogue since 2022 and was involved in other local Jewish organizations.
