Saju Chelavalel has admitted to killing his wife and their two young children. At Northampton Crown Court, Chelavalel entered a plea of guilty to the murders of 35-year-old NHS nurse Anju Asok, their six-year-old son Jeeva Saju, and their four-year-old daughter Janvi Saju.On December 15, 2013, all three were discovered with severe injuries at a residence in Petherton Court in Kettering, Northamptonshire. Chelavalel said “guilty” to two of the counts he was charged with, with the aid of an interpreter in the courtroom. He responded, in response to the accusation that he had killed Jeeva, “I don’t know what happened to the children, but I plead guilty.”

Asphyxiation was the cause of death for all three victims
The case was postponed until July 3 when Chelavalel was scheduled to be sentenced at the same court by Judge David Herbert KC. “There can only be one sentence in law, and that is a life sentence,” he told Chelavalel. “However, the judge hearing your case on that particular day will have to set the appropriate minimum term.” Following the deaths, post-mortem investigations at Leicester Royal Infirmary revealed that asphyxiation was the cause of death for all three victims. The medical cause of death for the children was strangling, while Ms. Asok’s cause of death was asphyxia, a coroner revealed at the beginning of the inquests into their deaths. Nurse Ms. Asok worked for Kettering General Hospital.
She was a “committed and compassionate staff nurse, loved and respected by her dear friends and colleagues,” according to Deborah Needham, the company’s chief executive. “Truly tragic case,” “This was a tragic case, and there are no words to articulate the devastation Saju Chelavalel caused when he chose to end the lives of Anju, Jeeva, and Janvi,” said Detective Inspector Simon Barnes, senior investigating officer for Northamptonshire Police. I’m glad he admitted responsibility and spared Anju’s loved ones the suffering of a trial. He will have to live with the consequences of what he did forever, and I hope one day he will genuinely understand the suffering his actions have brought. Anju Asok will be remembered for much more than just being this man’s victim. She was a committed nurse, a devoted mother, and an enduring friend.
