Leave a helpless baby in a ditch next to a road
In the department’s announcement, authorities stated, “On March 8, the Norwalk Police Department was contacted with concerns for the safety of a child in Norwalk.” Megan’s coworkers in Iowa, who noticed that she was no longer pregnant, raised concerns that day after becoming suspicious of her actions.
“Honestly, I was pretty horrified. I’m not really surprised though, just the vibe they gave off. They were a little strange,” said his neighbor Chris Hentschel, who was surprised to learn about the incident but not surprised, KCCI reported. According to the report, his residence was deemed “unsafe to occupy.” Rodney allegedly helped his daughter leave a helpless baby in a ditch next to a road on Delaware Street in Warren County.
Norwalk Police Chief Greg Staples told Law and Crime that everyone involved in the investigation has found it “difficult” and “emotional.” Giving credit to the officers who “drove in and solved a case of this magnitude so quickly,” Staples said, “Hopefully justice is being served for the baby who had no say in what happened to him.”

Dog named Montana discovered the newborn
Along with SAR K9, a search and rescue group, a cadaver dog named Montana discovered the newborn covered in snow. “The Safe Haven laws are there for a reason. It’s a shame that because the Safe Haven laws were not used in this case, we have a newborn death and two people in jail charged with the most serious crime of exists”. Staples said.
In concluding his statement, Staples believes that this case can help prevent similar tragic incidents from occurring. He said: “If there’s one good thing that comes out of this investigation, it’s that someone pregnant will see this story and their baby will have a life to live, unlike this baby.”
