Rod Githens Wiki – Rod Githens Biography

Rod Githens, 45, Authorities say a university professor in California was detained after attempting to meet up with a man he met on a dating app and the man’s fictional 7-year-old niece.

However, the man was an FBI agent posing as the girl’s uncle. Authorities quickly apprehended the University of the Pacific professor, identified as Rod Githens. A university representative did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment but told local ABC 10 on Wednesday that the professor “was immediately placed on indefinite administrative leave” once the university learned of his detention. The school is also “launching an independent review by an external investigator,” according to a spokesman.

The Daily Beast was the first to identify Githens as the man arrested earlier this week. According to a criminal complaint obtained by PEOPLE, Githens, 45, talked with the undercover FBI agent for over a month after matching the profile on the Grindr app using the hashtags “dirty,” “discreet,” “curious,” and “parent.” Authorities said Githens discovered the FBI agent’s profile in late March after searching for the keyword “parent” in the app. According to the criminal complaint filed in the Eastern District of California, Githens, who went by the moniker “Tod” online, allegedly suggested they shift their communication to the Telegram instant messaging programme. (Telegram is known to provide more security to its consumers.) The undercover agent pretended to be an uncle who “had a 7-year-old niece with whom he was sexually active.”

During their conversations, Githens allegedly referred to children as “property” and revealed how he previously attempted to have s*x with other young children, including a planned trip to Hawaii to meet with another man he met on Grindr who allegedly agreed to let him have sexual interactions with his 1-year-old godson, according to the complaint. However, Githens allegedly said that the trip to Hawaii was cancelled due to COVID-19 constraints. According to the criminal complaint, the undercover agent eventually induced Githens to provide additional selfies, which police used to identify the professor.

Githens allegedly stated that he’d bring the 7-year-old’s “favourite chocolate bar” and an “Ariel doll” from The Little Mermaid to persuade the agent and his alleged niece to meet together. The professor and the undercover agent allegedly met numerous times to “get comfortable with each other in order for Githens to have sex with [the FBI agent’s] purported 7-year-old niece,” according to the criminal complaint. According to the complaint, Githens cancelled all of these meetings.

At one time, Githens allegedly wrote to the undercover agent, “Honestly, I don’t think we’ll ever meet.” “Guys are always flaky. Always.” In order to apprehend Githens, the West Sacramento Police Department collaborated with the FBI, contacting the professor to inform him that they had discovered packages he had previously reported missing. Githens was summoned to the West Sacramento police station by authorities.

After leaving his house on April 19, Githens was pulled over and arrested, and officials questioned him and analysed data on his phone, which allegedly included the Telegram app and history of communications he shared with the FBI agent. Githens is charged with “receipt and distribution of images of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct.” The University of the Pacific, according to CBS News, has removed Githen’s professional page on its website, while a cached version says he was an associate professor and the Programme Lead for the Organisational Innovation and Change Programme at the school.
