Hollywood actor Robert Swan, who appeared in The Untouchables and Hoosiers, has died at the age of 78. The star passed away after a battle with liver cancer, his friend confirmed Wednesday, according to Variety.Swan was known for his roles in several feature films.His most notable performance was as a mounted police captain in Brian De Palma’s The Untouchable in 1987, starring Kevin Costner and Sean Connery.In the 1986 basketball movie Hoosiers, about a coach with a checkered past, he played Rollin Butcher.And Swan also played Deputy Napalatoni in Quentin Tarantino’s 1994 film Natural Born Killers, which starred Juliette Lewis.

He worked on the 1984 TV movie The Dollmaker, starring Jane Fonda, about a woman who makes dolls by hand to support her family during World War II.And he had a role with Kurt Russell and William Baldwin in the 1991 fire drama Backdraft.The star appeared in the classics Somewhere in Time, Heart of Steel, The Twilight Zone, Stingray.And he was in the Madonna movie Who’s That Girl.He also appeared on the soap opera All My Children.Other credits include Missing Persons and The Owner. Swan was the founder of Harbor Country Opera, the Michigan-based opera house that was founded in memory of Larry Frankle and Quincy White.He has also been a voice actor in commercials for United Airlines, Busch and Schlitz beer, Nine Lives cat food, and Beef Industry Council.Survivors include his wife, Barbara; brothers David and Charles; sister-in-law Elizabeth; nephews Christopher, Bryan and Daniel; and the dogs Baci and Chico.A celebration of life on a date to be announced.
