Robert J ONeill, the former Navy SEAL who claims to have killed Osama bin Laden, was arrested in Texas this week. Robert J. O’Neill, 47, was booked Wednesday in Frisco and charged with a Class A misdemeanor assault causing bodily harm and a Class C misdemeanor public intoxication, although jail records only list the assault charge, The Dallas Morning News reported. Frisco police declined to release more information Friday about the arrest. O’Neill was released the same day on $3,500 bail.

O’Neill had been in town to record a podcast at a local cigar lounge. He did not respond to a request for comment from the Post. O’Neill, a former member of SEAL Team 6, rose to public fame after taking credit for the shots that killed 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden during an undercover raid in 2011. O’Neill recounted the story in his 2017 memoir “The Operator.” The US government has never confirmed or denied the story. O’Neill’s raid in Texas is far from his first encounter with controversy. Delta Airlines banned the vet in 2020 for refusing to wear a mask.In 2016 he was arrested for drunk driving in Montana, charges that prosecutors later dropped, CBS News reported.The veteran is also a sponsor of Armed Forces Brewing Co., a Virginia microbrewery that was born amid controversy surrounding LGBTQ influencer Dylan Mulvaney’s Bud Light sponsorship.
