Racquel Lee posted details of her terrible experience on social media following the mass shooting in Allen, Texas, which killed eight people and injured seven more.
Lee was trying to “have some me time” when a routine afternoon of shopping turned into a nightmare. Lee was among those who took cover at the Allen Premium Outlets mall in Allen, Texas, on Saturday when a shooter opened fire, killing eight people and injuring seven more. Lee spoke with CBS News Texas about her experience, as well as on social media, where she gave a firsthand description of the shooting on Instagram, along with videos of herself and a group of 12 others cowering in a mall restroom closet.
Lee, a mother of two, said she was just stopping by the mall on her way home from a baby shower in nearby McKinney when the shooting started. Screams, cries, saw a lady get gunned down running past our window,” she described one day after the shooting in a detailed post.

Survivor of Texas shooting says slain store employee saved our lives
According to The Associated Press, the gunman, identified as 33-year-old Mauricio Garcia, drove up to the east side of the mall and began shooting at shoppers outside of an H&M store. It sounded like a war zone,” Lee said, according to CBS Texas. “It was terrifying and felt like you were in a nightmare.” Lee had been detoured from returning to her car by a store clerk, she said on Instagram. Her car was parked in front of the same H&M store where the shooting started. Instead, the worker ushered Lee and a dozen others into a neighboring closet, where they remained for the duration of the shooting, “trying not to be heard, crying, praying.”I remember thinking that he’s coming in here next, and I was hoping that we didn’t get hit by a bullet,” Lee told CBS. “Then the store associate came in and saved our lives.”
Texas Mall Shooting
Lee and the others later passed past bodies as police led them out of the mall. One of those bodies belonged to the store employee who had led them to safety. I was right at the epicenter and can’t unsee or unlive what happened yesterday,” Lee posted online on Sunday. According to the Gun Violence Archive, an organization that records gun violence across the country, the killings were the 202nd mass shooting in the United States this year. Mass shootings are defined by the GVA as any gun-related occurrence in which four or more individuals are shot or killed. Such an attack is too shocking to be so familiar,” President Joe Biden said in a statement later, adding that “gun violence is the leading cause of death for American children.”
Allen Police Chief Brian Harvey told reporters on Saturday that a police officer on an unrelated call inside the mall heard gunfire around 3:36 p.m. before apprehending and killing the gunman. Investigators are now investigating whether the gunman had neo-Nazi or white supremacist ideas, and if so, whether those beliefs were linked to Saturday’s shooting.
