Piran Ditta Khan, a man has been extradited from Pakistan and charged with the murder of police hero Sharon Beshenivsky. PC Beshenivsky, a mother of three and two stepchildren, was shot while responding to a robbery at a Bradford travel agency in November 2005. The 38-year-old officer had only served nine months when she was killed. Her PC colleague Teresa Millburn was also seriously injured in the same incident.
Piran Ditta Khan, 74, was flown to the UK and charged with murder, robbery, two counts of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, and two counts of possession of a prohibited weapon. The pensioner was taken to a police station in West Yorkshire, having previously been arrested by Pakistani police in January 2020. He has been taken into custody to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court tomorrow. He had previously fought against his extradition to the UK.

PC Beshenivsky was shot while responding to a robbery at Universal Travel in Morley Street, Bradford, on November 18, 2005. At the time of her death, she was on probation. Six men were later jailed at Newcastle Crown Court, but those involved in the attack had gone abroad. He previously denied any wrongdoing, telling reporters in Pakistan: “I really can’t apologize because I haven’t done anything wrong.” A spokesman for the Crown Prosecution Service said the charges against Khan were authorized in 2006, leading to the issuance of the extradition order.
