Penny Smith and Kristy C Thow, a loving Kansas mother, and daughter, were killed in a suspected murder-suicide carried out by the mother’s husband, according to investigators.
Kristy C. Thow, 29, of Shawnee, and her mother, Penny Smith, 50, died at the hospital after a “domestic shooting” at Smith’s house in Kansas City shortly before 11 p.m. on May 18, according to various press releases from the Kansas City Police Department.
A third victim, who was not identified by authorities, was treated and released from a local hospital. Smith’s husband, Christopher Smith, 51, was discovered dead after an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to authorities. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to assist gather funds for Thow’s surviving daughter’s college fund and to support other remaining family members.

Killed by Mom’s ‘Crazed Domestic Abuser’ Husband in Murder-Suicide
“Kristy was a single mom, raising Camilla and helping her sister’s children,” according to the campaign, which was set up by a lady who identified herself as Kristy’s aunt. “She had a golden heart and lived life to the fullest!” She will be sorely missed.” Kristy was “shot multiple times protecting the lives of her sister and her mother, my sister, from a crazed domestic abuser,” according to the campaign. Smith is survived by two more daughters and three grandchildren, according to the fundraising. The KCKPD is still investigating the event.
