Screaming Jets bassist and founding member Paul Woseen has died at the age of 56. His bandmates shared the news Friday night on their social media channels and said they were “devastated” by the guitarist’s death. “It is with a broken heart that we tell you that our beloved rock brother Paul Woseen has passed away today,” they wrote in a statement. “We are devastated dealing with the loss of Paully, he was a shining light in all of our lives,” they continued. “Our hearts go out to Paully’s family and we ask that you respect our need for privacy at this time.” Tributes from Australian celebrities poured in on the band’s Instagram page following the tragic announcement.

The Newcastle-based band formed in 1989 and became one of the biggest Australian rock groups of the 1990s. They are best known for their hit Better, which reached the top five of the ARIA charts in 1991. The band was nominated for four ARIA Awards throughout their career and had three albums in the top five. Woseen, along with frontman Dave Gleeson, were the only two original members left in the band. The Screaming Jets are still touring and releasing music, and are scheduled to release their ninth studio album Professional Misconduct on October 6. They also have a series of tour dates from October through February.
