Paul Anthony Coughlan, 68, has been charged with murder and interfering with a corpse after the lifeless body of former teacher’s assistant Chris Gwin was discovered at his Conondale house on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland on Saturday. Mr. Gwin, 69, is accused of being stabbed to death in an unprovoked attack two days earlier. After failing to meet with friends for a weekly dinner, a concerned friend went to Mr. Gwin’s house and found the dreadful finding. Coughlan did not attend in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday, where startling new revelations were heard. After stabbing Mr. Gwin, Coughlin allegedly mutilated his body, according to police.
The paperwork also indicated that the Maroochydore guy was mentally ill and had been placed under the Mental Health Act, according to the Sunshine Coast Daily. Mr. Gwin also knew his alleged murderer, according to the court. The matter was postponed until August 18 for a committal hearing. Coughlan is still imprisoned and has been referred to prison mental health.
