The case went from being a missing person case to a death investigation. Family members said Fowler had disappeared after seeing a man she was seeing. Her aunt Tamara McCoy previously said: ‘Olivia loves family; she loves, loves, loves her family. “She is a great mother with the biggest heart.” The FBI joined the case in May 2022 before investigators received a tip and found her remains in a rural part of the county in December. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Crime Scene Unit helped recover her body, process the scene and perform an autopsy. Authorities sent a DNA sample to the FBI crime lab, which confirmed the remains were Fowler’s. Sheriff Smith said: ‘The family requests that they be allowed to properly mourn this recent news and support them during this difficult time. “The family would like the public to know that Olivia was not only a mother, but also a daughter, sister, granddaughter and an important member of the Fowler family.” Fowler’s aunt formed a search party called ‘Olivia’s Army’ to try and find her. Her family also raised money to hire a private investigator by organizing car washes and hosting fundraisers.
