On the following day, Nicholas James Kassotis was charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, and malicious murder in connection with the death of Mindi Mebane Kassotis. Kassotis, also known as Nicholas Killian James Stark, is accused of tampering with evidence as well as removing body pieces from the site. On Friday, May 12, he was arrested in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Where did the authorities discover Mindi’s body?

Last December 2, hunters discovered the Georgia woman’s remains near a hunting club in Riceboro, Georgia. Her fragmented remains were discovered in the Portal Hunting Club woods on November 27, 2022. “Her death is believed to have occurred one to two weeks before she was discovered,” the GBI stated in a prior announcement. Following months of interviews, advanced testing in labs, and genealogy DNA analysis, the GBI ultimately identified the remains on May 11.

What did the GBI have to say?

GBI agents assigned to this investigation asked the FBI for help with genealogy DNA.” According to Fox News, the GBI claimed in a press statement that “the FBI used a lab specializing in this advanced testing and received results that furthered the investigation.” “The GBI interviewed family members and obtained DNA swabs for comparison to the profile created through genealogy DNA,” the statement continued.

What happened to Kassotis?

Nicholas James Kassotis is being imprisoned in Pennsylvania’s Lancaster County Prison and will be extradited to Georgia. The GBI thanked the FBI, US Marshals Service, East Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force, Lancaster Police Department, Pennsylvania State Police, and the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in their investigation.
