Nhung Truong, 44, a Texas woman could spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair after a robber threw her to the ground and stole thousands of dollars in an attack caught on camera last month, police say and the reports.

Nhung Truong has been unable to use one of her legs since a man assaulted her on February 13 after withdrawing a large sum of cash from a bank, according to relatives and Houston police. Truong, 44, was followed to a shopping center 24 miles from the bank, where the suspect approached her and tried to flee with the money, authorities said. She dropped some of her personal items during the fight with the man, footage shared by Houston police shows.

The thief left with an item, before rushing back, picked Truong up off the ground, and mercilessly smashed her to the pavement before fleeing with the money, police said. The police believe that she originally stole the wrong item that she had in mind before returning. The family said around $4,300 was stolen, KRIV reported.

Truong is a single mother of three who came to the US from Vietnam. The victim’s mother explained that her daughter has already had a difficult life, as she lost her husband to liver cancer seven years ago, KRIV reported. She needs constant care, including help going to the bathroom.

Doctors reportedly said there is a 50% chance Truong will be able to walk again. If a miracle happens, she can walk again,” her daughter Van Duong told KRIV. The money she withdrew from the bank was supposed to go toward a trip to Vietnam for her and her family, according to a GoFundMe page set up by her family. The family requests financial assistance for the care and daily expenses of her mother. No arrests have been made in the case.
