Before boarding the bus, Mr. Cole was recorded buying four larger cans from a local store. His phone was last active at 12:41 a.m. that morning and there has been no activity on his bank account since. However, at 8:18 a.m. m. on Friday, February 17, police officers reported a male unresponsive in the canal near Towpath Road, Edmonton.
Officers, the London Ambulance Service, and London Fire Brigade attended and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. While formal identification is expected to take place in due course, officers believe the man is Nathan Cole. Mr. Cole’s family has been notified and is being supported by specialist officers.
His family, who previously lived near the Walthamstow area, said his disappearance was “very out of character” as they sought information outside New Scotland Yard. Luke Cole, his brother, said: ‘Nathan was the eldest of five children, we are a big family. We are very close and have always spent a lot of time together. He was a very outgoing person, even outside of the family. He always made time for anyone, even the homeless and people who seemed to be in need. He was always a very selfless person. His sister Hannah Cole said: “Nathan was a very social person, he was very social and it was normal for him to be out late at night.”
Nathan wouldn’t do this. We’ve even done our own research, looking at his social media, texts and calls, and his latest transactions. He is always active in our WhatsApp group. Something has happened to him. I urge anyone who has been in the Tottenham or Walthamstow area on January 21 to think carefully if he has seen anything suspicious and to report it to the police if he remembers anything out of the ordinary. Angela Craggs, head of public protection for Central West BCU, said: “He is a white male, about 5ft 10in. He was wearing small round Leonard-style glasses, a gray trench coat and dark slacks, Dr. Martens shoes, and a red scarf.
Police investigations are still ongoing and anyone who may have information or be in the area on Saturday 21st January and Sunday 22nd January is urged to call the police on 101 quoting ‘1508/17FEB’
