Natalie Bennett, 47, tried to hit Kasey Anderson in the head while she called for help in her neighbor’s driveway on March 11 of this year. But the defendant claimed that she did not know who had stabbed him and said: “He came in like that.” It was later discovered that he had suffered superficial cuts to his neck, right shoulder, lower back and left forearm, as well as a “superficial” stab wound to his lower right leg. But Anderson had also suffered a “deep stab wound” to the chest, which damaged his left lung and his heart. After being rushed to Aintree Hospital, he underwent “what was expected to be life-saving surgery” but died 20 days later, in the early hours of March 31, just over a week before what would have been his 25th birthday on April 8.

Pratt said: “The medical evidence suggests that this was not just a knife strike, but one of several wounds. “The slash wounds may have been superficial in nature and the stab wound to the leg may have been shallow, but together they demonstrate a concerted attack which provides the background to the fatal chest wound. Bennett described how she “hit” him with the gun “because she was afraid, afraid of Kasey” and “what he was going to do.”
She claimed that she had aimed a swing with the sword “only once”, after which Mr Anderson “was just screaming” and “they ended up outside for some reason”. Her defense lawyer, Stanley Reiz KC, asked: “What did he intend to do?” Bennett responded: “Not hurting him like that anyway, no chance. Not doing that. I loved him. I still do. I was scared. I wouldn’t hurt him, no chance. I still love him.
