Naomi Sarah Ferrans, nine, was knocked down during her school lunch break near New Cumnock in Ayrshire. She was cycling in Castle Place when the accident occurred with a tractor pulling a trailer on Monday afternoon. Emergency services attended but Naomi was pronounced dead at the scene. Police Scotland said the driver stopped after the crash and investigations are underway to establish the full circumstances of what happened. Dozens of tributes have poured in for the young woman following her death, with one person describing her as “one of a kind” with a “cheeky personality”. Another said: “I’m absolutely heartbroken, totally devastated.” ‘I can’t begin to imagine how you all feel as a family right now, Naomi was one of a kind, anyone who knew her knows the cheeky little personality of hers, no matter where she was she made people smile. “May you rest in peace little angel, I send you all a big hug and my deepest condolences.”

My heart is absolutely broken for all of you.’ Castle Place in New Cumnock was closed for more than seven hours while officers carried out investigations. Police have now appealed for anyone with dashcam footage to come forward as they continue their investigation into the tragedy. Inspector Craig Beaver of Ayrshires Highway Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts are with Naomi’s family and friends at this difficult time and we ask that her privacy is respected.” “Our investigations are ongoing and we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken to officers to get in touch. “I would also appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have dash cam footage that may be able to help contact us.” Anyone with information is asked to contact 101 quoting reference 1311 of 18 September 2023.
