Mohamed Mao, 34, a man who worked as a security guard, was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a teenage girl in a shopping center parking lot in Fullerton earlier this week.
Mao of Anaheim was booked on suspicion of assault with intent to rape, kidnapping, sexually assaulting a minor, and impersonate a police officer, according to Fullerton Police Capt. Jon Radus. The alleged victim girl arrived at the police with his parents around 7:20 p.m. on Tuesday to report that she had been sexually assaulted, the Fullerton Police Department said.
The 17-year-old was with her boyfriend inside a parked vehicle in the 1800 block of Malvern Avenue, near the Amerige Heights Town Center. That’s when a uniformed man ordered him into the back seat of her security vehicle, police said. The suspect locked her in the police car and drove to another part of the mall where he sexually assaulted her, investigators said. The suspect let her go after she contacted her parents by phone.

Suspect charged with sexual assault – Arrested
Once officers learned of the incident, they proceeded to the location where the victim said the assault occurred,” police said. “While there, the officers observed Mao attempting to stop another vehicle in the mall parking lot. Radus said security guards are not allowed to conduct traffic stops. It was Mao’s second day on the job, police said.
Mao was arrested, but a spokesman for the Orange County District Attorney’s Office said they dropped the case so it could be further investigated. Investigators said Mao would remain in custody while detectives gathered more information, but jail records show he was released at 9:46 p.m.
The suspect’s employer, Brea-based VP Protection Inc., says Mao is no longer with the company. The security company said they interviewed Mao and he looked “presentable.” He had no criminal record and was certified as a security guard at the time of his hire.
Regency Centers, the mall’s property manager, said in a statement
“We are appalled to learn of this incident. We have immediately suspended our security provider while we investigate further. No one should have to experience this type of incident, at our facility or otherwise. Detectives believe there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward.
