Michael Kable, an industrial arts teacher charged with assault over a nasty classroom fight has defended himself in an online petition that has drawn hundreds of signatures.
Michael Kable was arrested Tuesday night after fighting with students while teaching at Maitland Grossman Secondary School, northwest of Newcastle in New South Wales, earlier that afternoon.

Alleged classroom assault filmed by students
Footage circulating online captured the confrontation, which began with a student throwing balls of paper at the teacher. The situation quickly escalated when vision caught the teacher appearing to grab the student by the neck, prompting other teens to intervene.
A student pushed the teacher and yelled: “You wanna f***ing touch him again?. Mr. Kable urged students to put their phones away, but the situation got out of hand with a desk thrown at the teacher and several startled students fleeing the room.
In the video, the teacher could be seen pushing the student around the classroom. The footage appeared to show the teacher raising his arm and hitting the student while he was on the ground. “Are you f***ing stupid?”, a student screams.
The teacher then stood at the door and challenged the students, saying: “Who wants to have a go?” An anonymous online petition offering support for Mr. Kable has already received more than 450 signatures. Police confirmed that Mr. Kable was arrested and charged with common assault.
“Around 9:30 p.m. m., a 62-year-old man was arrested and taken to Belmont Police Station where he was charged with common assault,” NSW Police told news.com.au on Wednesday. “The teenager was assessed on scene by paramedics from NSW Ambulance; however, he was not physically injured.
Mr. Kable received a conditional bond to appear in Maitland Local Court on April 6. A NSW Department of Education spokesperson says the department is aware of the incident and the school is working with police.
