Investigation Report

In the clip, Keilloh can be heard telling her two friends how drunk she felt after leaving a house party. She was asked, “Do you feel like you’re going to put our lives in danger?” and she responded, “100 percent. I’m screwed.” Even as the friends argued over whether they should get back in, Keilloh started the engine and set off down dark country roads, while she listened to loud dance music. Just 15 minutes later, the girls can be heard screaming as the brakes screech and Keilloh crashes. Phoebe’s heartbroken mother Nicola said: “They can take your life in the blink of an eye. When I went [to see her in hospital] I just held her hand and didn’t want to leave. It just takes everything away from you.” “It’s all just an effort and you wonder how long I have to go through this pain. It’s had a huge impact, not only on us and our families, but also on our friends and the community at large.” She continued: “You don’t realize, until you’re actually going through it, how much of an impact it has on everything.

I would say to parents who never stop complaining and to young people: please listen and take care of yourselves.” Recalling the moment police officers knocked on her door and took the couple to Queen’s Medical Center in Nottingham, Nicola added: “It was around 1am, I heard the sirens. It was one of them that I thought: ‘Did I hear that or was it me?’ Ringing?’ And then I saw the blue lights coming through the curtains, followed by knocking on the door. I got out of bed and looked out the window, there were torches shining on us. “They told me: ‘Your daughter has been in an accident and she is very bad.’ and they took us there very quickly. “I knew she must have been in a bad way because of how they had come looking for us, but I still didn’t imagine that would be the result.” A Derbyshire Police spokesperson said: “We hope her story helps show us what the reality of reckless driving can lead to. “It is part of our Just a Second campaign, where we urge you to take a second to make the decision not to drink and drive. It’s just not worth the risk.”
