Mavis Christian Jr., the gunman believed to be behind the murders of three women and a 13-year-old girl during a shooting in Memphis Saturday night, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Memphis Police Department said Mavis Christian Jr., 52, was a “known relative” of the victims and described the horrific attack at three different homes as a domestic violence situation. Police were dispatched to the first location on Field Lark Drive, where they found the teen and another victim dead at the scene shortly after 5:40 p.m.

A 15-year-old female was rushed to Regional One Health in critical condition. An hour later, at 6:40 p.m. m., the third victim was found and pronounced dead at 5050 Warrington Road, located approximately 13 miles from the first shooting. Nearly three hours later, a third shooting was reported and a fourth woman was pronounced dead with an apparent gunshot wound. Police found Christian Jr. dead inside a white Chevrolet Malibu early Sunday morning. “As a father, it breaks my heart,” MPD Public Information Officer Christopher Williams said outside the first shooting scene. “They were someone’s children, sisters and aunts. They were people, real people. We have to do better. We must do better. “As a community, it needs all of us. Not just the police, not just the community, but we have to work together to stop senseless acts of violence. We are tired of it. The community is tired of this. According to police, Christian Jr. is a “known relative,” but an exact relationship between him and the victims, a motive, or identification of the victims has yet to be revealed.
