Father charged for ‘beautiful’ son Callum Rycroft murdered crossing M62

The dangerous driving is understood to have occurred on North Street and Luck Lane, in the Marsh area of Huddersfield, shortly before the motorway accident. Prosecutor Vanessa Jones described Callum’s death as “very sad” and asked District Judge David Kitson to hold Rycroft in custody until his appearance at Leeds Crown Court. The defense attorney, Louise Stead, did not request bail. No members of Callum’s family were in the public gallery during the two-minute hearing.

Judge Kitson told Rycroft, who showed no emotion in court, that he will appear before Leeds Crown Court on September 5. In a statement, Callum’s mother paid tribute to her son. She said: ‘Callum was a beautiful happy soul who was unique, great fun and larger than life. He brought light, laughter and noise to any room. Callum had a huge impact on everyone who knew him. The house is so quiet without him here. We are devastated by what happened and ask that people respect our desire for privacy at this difficult time. We are very grateful for the support and kind comments we have received.’ West Yorkshire Police officers are continuing to investigate the collision.
