Mason Peddle, 28, the under-23s captain of AFC Portchester (near Fareham), died recently. Tributes have flooded in for the ‘top guy,’ with family and friends praising him as a “huge character” and saying his passing will be a “huge loss to everyone.” ‘Our captain, our teammate, and our friend – you will be so, so missed by all at the club, and none more so than by us all at the under-23s,’ said under-23s manager Mark Dugan.
‘He is our captain, but he is also a tremendous character around the club, the island, and the surrounding football community. ‘As teammate to many his influence was clear for all to see and will no likely be carried on by the many he assisted in their footballing path. ‘A great friend to all that met him and a huge loss to everyone. Mr. Peddle’s AFC Portchester teammates reacted to his loss on social media, with James Cowan writing: ‘The nicest most loveable man about. Today I am completely speechless. Just know that you were adored by many people.’ ‘There are no words,’ wrote Olly Searle. RIP, Mase,’ stated Curtis Da Costa, while saying, ‘Rest easy, brother.’ ‘This is devastating news,’ Sam Pearce added. RIP, buddy,’ Jake Raine muttered, and he was at a loss for words. ‘Take it easy, mate.’
A GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist his family with funeral expenses.
With an aim of £20,000, donations had already surpassed £17,000 in less than a half-day.
