Martha Crouch, 58, was charged with felony child abuse and extreme cruelty to animals for allegedly boiling four puppies alive and forcing some of her 15 children to witness their slow death, after telling a child that I would cook something special for her birthday. In another case, she allegedly shot a child’s dog as punishment. And, in other cases, she allegedly hit one of her daughters with a spatula and hit another so hard that she miscarried. Other child abuse allegations against Crouch included claims that she chained one of her sons to her bed and used a chain on one of her daughters to shame her for her weight. On December 8, 2021, Crouch accepted a plea deal for a single count of attempted child abuse in the fourth degree, via a virtual hearing held in San Juan County, New Mexico, according to the Farmington Daily Times. Most of the charges against her were dropped and she was released on probation. However, two days later, Crouch allegedly violated the terms of her probation and a warrant was issued for her arrest.

Huerfano County Sheriff’s deputies say she was found out. The discovery came after Timothy Crouch, 62, died outside his residence on East Grand Street in Walsenburg, a small town about an hour and a half south of Colorado Springs, after complaining of difficulty breathing on the 17th. of August. according to local ABC affiliate KRDO. One of Crouch’s adult children learned of his father’s death and reportedly asked officers to return to the residence. She allegedly told police that her siblings were being abused there and that children with special needs had been in the care of her father. After that curious reaction to the man’s death, investigators learned that Crouch’s wife had been convicted of child abuse, but she was still wanted on a probation violation warrant by New Mexico authorities. Later that afternoon, Huerfano County Sheriff’s deputies returned to Crouch’s residence with a warrant. However, before entering the premises, another member of the Crouch family said they had been told that her mother died several years ago. The Crouch boy also reportedly told police that one of her brothers had disappeared about three years ago. Police also reportedly received a tip from a neighbor and found a false wall in the kitchen. There, they allegedly found the missing Martha Crouch hiding along with her 14-year-old daughter, the same girl who had allegedly disappeared three years ago. Martha Crouch was arrested and now faces additional charges of child abuse and obstruction of law enforcement. She is being held at the Huerfano County Jail on a $5,000 cash bond. No court date has been set in her case.
