Mark Selby Wiki – Mark Selby Biography
Mark Selby has been rescued after being trapped in the wildfires currently raging in Rhodes. Selby was on the island on vacation when the fires began to overwhelm the Greek mainland. The fires have raged for more than a week, with thousands now being evacuated by British tour companies and others saved by locals. Images and videos from the island have shown tourists being forced to evacuate their hotels, either by walking or by boat. Some 19,000 people have been evacuated so far, in what Greek authorities say is the largest operation of its kind. Selby, who was runner-up at this year’s World Snooker Championship, was among those rescued. He revealed the situation on Monday night to inform fans that he had safely returned to the UK. He wrote: “Wow where do I start! First of all I just want to say a huge thank you to the locals of Rhodes for helping us, we can’t thank you enough for your kindness! We are back home safe and sound! Praying for everyone to get home safely.”

While firefighters begin to control the situation, tourists continue to be evacuated. And Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis warned parliament on Monday that difficult times were ahead. “We are at war and we are oriented exclusively towards the front of fire. This battle is unequal and will continue to be so as long as conditions remain difficult,” the center-right leader said of the situation. “During the next few weeks we must be on constant alert. We are at war, we will rebuild what we lost, we will compensate the wounded. The climate crisis is already here, it will manifest itself in all parts of the Mediterranean with major disasters”. The European Union has sent firefighters from the bloc countries to help Greece. Serbian firefighters are expected to arrive to reinforce Rhodes, although at the moment the British government does not advise against traveling to the island.
