Maria Del Carmen Lopez was kidnapped from her home in Mexico, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said it is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to her “physical location.”
In a press release issued Thursday, the FBI said it believes 63-year-old Maria Del Carmen Lopez was abducted from her home in Pueblo Nuevo, Colima, on February 9. CBS Los Angeles reports that Lopez is the mother of seven children, and many of her children still live in Southern California. She often takes trips to visit family spread throughout the South.

She was the target of a crime
“We’re still doing everything we can. We’re not going to give up on my mom,” said one of Maria’s sons, Tony. “We’re going to find her, one way or another.” Her children now plead for her safe return after this terrifying event that they believed was unprovoked.
“There were never any kind of threats, there were never any enemies,” Zonia, Maria’s daughter, told CBS Los Angeles. “Anything to indicate that she was in some kind of trouble.” A family member identified only as a cousin of López’s children reported seeing a group of up to five people at her home at the time of her disappearance.
“Someone did see. There was a car that went onto the property. There was an exchange of words, they heard her say that she was not going to get in the car,” Zonia said. “Two subjects picked her up and another got out of the truck. They had their heads covered with her and they covered her mouth and there they took her.” Her children believe that she was the target of a crime of opportunity and that she had no connection to any gang or criminal activity of any kind.

No arrests have been made in connection with the kidnapping
“I don’t think it was isolated, to end up in a town that is so far from the city, you would really have to be directed: go there,” Zonia said. No arrests have been made in connection with the alleged kidnapping. “The FBI is conducting this investigation in conjunction with law enforcement authorities in Mexico,” Laura Eimiller of the FBI said in a statement.
Investigators have described Lopez as standing around 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighing around 160 pounds. She has blonde hair, brown eyes, and “permed/tattooed” eyeliner, the statement said.
