Maria Cruz de la Cruz Wiki – Maria Cruz de la Cruz Biography
Maria Cruz de la Cruz, a 51-year-old mother and elementary school teacher, was found shot inside a home in Palmetto Estates, south of Miami, around 4:20 p.m. On Friday, Detective Angel Rodriguez of the Miami-Dade Police Department told the Post in a statement. A second unidentified male victim was also shot by the gunman, who ultimately committed suicide, Rodriguez said. Police declined to release the condition of the male victim. Another woman was also in the home, but she was not injured, authorities said. Cruz and the injured male victim were transported to Jackson South Medical Center, where he died from his injuries, Rodriguez said. The shooter, who has not been publicly identified, was found dead at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The gun was on the ground next to him, Rodríguez added.
Maria Cruz de la Cruz was 51 years old.
Detectives have determined this is a murder/suicide,” Rodriguez said. Cameras at the scene showed the uninjured survivor and another woman speaking to officers after the crime, WSVN reported. Cruz was a math teacher at Doral Academy K-8 Charter, according to a GoFundMe established in her memory. At the time of her death, Cruz had been working at the school for nearly 10 years, according to the fundraising page. “It is with great sadness that we inform you of the loss of our beloved Mrs. María Cruz,” said director Eleanora Cuesta in a statement to our sister network NBC6. “His compassion for her, her commitment and her love for her students have left an indelible mark on all of us. In these difficult times, our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with her daughters. “May the memory of our beloved María Cruz be a blessing.” As of Sunday morning, the GoFundMe for Cruz’s family had raised more than $22,000 of its $100,000 goal.
Palmetto Estates neighbors said the occupants of the home where the shooting occurred were new to the area. A local resident told NBC6 that he heard gunshots from his home and called 911. “We didn’t know what to expect because [the police] came out of their cars with weapons in their hands,” a neighbor, a woman who lives a few doors away from the place, told the outlet. “We were quite nervous and scared not knowing who really lived in our neighborhood. “You don’t know what the neighbors are capable of, it could have happened outside and someone could have been hurt innocently,” she said. “I just hope something like this never happens again.” Another neighbor, Raidel Muñoz, said authorities cordoned off the street for some time. “The lockdown of this area is a big surprise, to say the least,” he said. “I noticed a lot of ambulances, firefighters, helicopters passing by, then I went outside to see what was happening. Quite worrying. “I never expected something like this so close to my house,” Muñoz added.
