Jaws 2 star Marc Gilpin has passed away at the age of 56 after a long battle with cancer. The Hollywood child actor was best known for his role as the youngest son of Roy Scheider’s police chief, Martin Brody, in the 1978 sequel to Steven Spielberg’s hit film. Marc’s older sister, Peri Gilpin, who is an actress who starred in the sitcom Frasier, confirmed the news of her brother’s death, reports The Hollywood Reporter. The actor died heartbreakingly in Dallas, Texas, after a battle with glioblastoma, a fast-growing, aggressive brain tumor. In May of last year, a fundraiser was organized for Marc, his wife Kaki and his children in an attempt to help the family as they “faced the unimaginable” as the star continued to battle the disease. That month it was discovered that Marc had two tumors in his brain, and one of the tumors was said to be centrally located, meaning he could not be removed surgically due to his location. In addition to the battle over Marc’s health, the family faced financial problems as the former child actor lost his job, while his wife Kaki, an elementary school teacher, had to leave her job to care for him.

Marc recently lost his job along with his company-paid insurance plan and has been actively looking for a new job. “In the face of this medical crisis, Marc clearly cannot get a job right now. His wife, Kaki, is a primary school teacher, which is the most admirable profession but unfortunately also very poorly paid. Given the current crisis situation they are in, Kaki has had to take time off from FMLA work to navigate all of the medical appointments, treatments, and more. Therefore, her salary is further reduced during this period.’ In a subsequent update to the page, GoFundMe organizer Kim Parks wrote: “The tumor has not grown, it has shrunk a bit and has no new satellites. Neuro oncologists are very encouraged by the response to treatment.’ The page continued to receive kind words of support and donations, even up until the week of his death.
Career
Marc beat out hundreds of other young actors to land the role of the boss’s son, Sean Brody, in Jaws 2, and the hit movie hit theaters when Marc was 11 years old. He starred alongside Roy and Lorraine Gary, who returned to the franchise to play her on-screen mother. While Mark Gruner joined as Marc’s on-screen older brother, Michael.
