Malisha Sasfras, a mother, is facing murder charges in the death of her four-year-old son. Another man, her boyfriend, is also wanted for the boy’s murder, but he is on the run and has not yet been caught by the police. DeKalb County authorities have urged the public to help them find Javonte Harris, wanted for murder and child cruelty.
Both Harris and the boy’s mother, 25-year-old Malisha, are believed to be involved in the innocent boy’s death. Authorities responded to the scene of the crime, an apartment complex on Candler Road on Saturday, February 11, where they found the boy in critical condition. Unfortunately, the boy died after being taken to the hospital despite all efforts to save his life. Police did not identify the boy or reveal who made the 911 call.

Complicit boyfriend is still on the run
According to WXIA-TV, investigators did not reveal how exactly the boy died but said they believe it was the result of cruelty “based on physical evidence” found at the scene. The arrest warrants state that Javonte Harris caused the death by “hitting the child and causing other injuries.” Harris has been charged with murder and cruelty to children in the first degree, although his whereabouts are unknown at this time.

Meanwhile, the warrant for Malisha Safras’s arrest alleged that she allowed Harris to “abuse the girl multiple times knowing that the abuse was occurring.” She allegedly also let him “continue to abuse the boy to death.” According to WXIA-TV, Sasfras remained “calm with her head down the entire time” when she appeared in court on Monday, February 13. She did not set bail. Authorities stated that Sasfras and Harris were in a relationship but not married. According to court records, the mother lives in the Candler Forest apartment complex on Candler Road. As mentioned, authorities have yet to release any further details about how the boy was injured or what exactly led to his death.

Police in Columbus, Ohio had reportedly been searching for the couple in the alleged murder of baby Marquel Smith. Court records indicate that officers arrived at his home on January 9 after a report that the boy was not breathing. The baby was rushed to a hospital where doctors pronounced him dead, but also discovered suspicious injuries in the process.
An autopsy conducted by the Franklin County Coroner’s Office on January 11 determined that the infant died of blunt force trauma. The autopsy report stated that he suffered a “cerebral hemorrhage and several bruises on the subdermal skull.” It also determined that Marquel’s “numerous broken bones were consistent with abuse and not accidental in nature.” Dawson and March turned themselves into police in Perry County after they were found in Dawson’s hometown of New Straitsville.
