Maher Maaroufe Wiki – Maher Maaroufe Biography
Maher Maaroufe, 23, pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Sabita Thanwani, a psychology student at City University in Clerkenwell, central London, on March 19, 2022. The Tunisian denied that it was murder on the grounds of diminished responsibility due to his diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder. At his latest hearing at the Old Bailey, the court heard how cannabis smoker Maaroufe suffers from paranoia and hallucinations and believed Thanwani had turned into a male demon before his eyes on the night in question. Dr Christian Brown, a consultant psychiatrist who has been treating Maaroufe at Broadmoor maximum security hospital, also told the court that Maaroufe was not aware of what he had done at the time of the violent act. Dr. Brown said: “According to his accounts, he believed that Sabita became a demon before her eyes, a male one, describing how he killed a male figure. “He felt that he had done something wrong, which, according to his accounts, appears to have happened to him minutes or hours after the offense. “Despite being accused of his murder, I don’t know if he knew what he had done at the time.

Investigation Report
The level of violence here is very extreme and his behavior afterwards… walking away, hiding, head-butting a police officer, the basis is psychotic illness.” A court heard how police were called to Arbor House in Sebastian Street after a neighbor heard the victim tell Maaroufe to stop, before saying: “I can’t breathe.” You’re going to kill me. Officers went to Ms Thanwani’s room, where she was found lying on the floor under her blankets with a serious neck injury. She had suffered 18 cuts to her face, neck and chest. She was later pronounced dead at the scene at 6 a.m. The court then heard that Maaroufe, who was wearing a white shirt and blue tie in court, had put on a balaclava and fled before police officers arrived at the building. The next day, police found him sleeping under a tarp in a garden shed and he head-butted a detective. The prosecution indicated that the plea was acceptable to the Crown and that Maaroufe will not be tried for her murder. She also pleaded guilty to one count of assault by striking an emergency worker. It was also revealed that Maaroufe, appearing in court flanked by four dock officers, had entered the UK legally some years ago but was given a deportation notice for overstaying on August 14, 2019. He has since applied for asylum, but the matter remains unresolved. The accused, who had no fixed address, was assisted by an Arabic interpreter and taken back into custody. Maaroufe will return for sentencing at the Old Bailey on December 8.
