Luke Hawkes Wiki – Luke Hawkes Bio

Luke Hawkes pickup truck driver was caught on camera telling police “I hope I killed someone” when he was pulled over for killing a teenage girl after running a red light. On November 18, 28-year-old Luke Hawkes ran a red light, drove at high speed, and collided with two cars, instantly killing 19-year-old girl Bethany Branson.

Hawkes can be seen driving a white Ford Transit van along the A38 in Bridgwater, Somerset, in Avon and Somerset Police video. After the horrific collision, Hawkes was detained and threatened with a Taser but refused to give a breath sample for testing. After his arrest, he was recorded on a body camera saying, “I hope I killed someone. Oh, well, you know what, I’m three, four, five years old. Hopefully, I killed them.”

The court was told that Hawkes had been detained after the collision and had shown no remorse for his actions in refusing to submit to a breathalyzer or drug and alcohol swab test. Hawkes, a Bridgwater resident, allegedly pleaded guilty to causing death by reckless driving and failing to produce a sample at an earlier hearing.

At Taunton Crown Court on Friday, January 27, Hawkes received a 10-year sentence, as well as a 12-year, 7-month driving ban. Judge Paul Cook said: “You can tell this was a prolonged, consistent and deliberate driving course. It was obvious he was drunk as I have seen the state of his intoxication on various videos. It was very clear Bethany was a person bubbly and contagious, destined for a life of generosity that has broken the hearts of the family. You created a sea of carnage and then you left. You were then heard saying ‘I’m glad she’s dead, she deserved it’ and ‘I wish [ you] killed someone,'” according to the Daily Mail.

In the video, Bethany’s mother, Amy, said: “She was thoughtful, she was loved. She always said she was here for the good times and not for long and it’s heartbreaking that she was actually right.” Prior to the deadly incident, Hawkes was reportedly involved in a minor traffic accident near the Showground Roundabout, later on A38 Taunton Road. After the collision, he left the scene and headed for Bridgwater, where he later caused the accident that killed Bethany. Three more people, including Hawkes, suffered minor injuries.

Principal Investigating Officer Andrew Roebuck and Family Liaison Officer Martin Farnell said: “The family has shown exceptional courage and bravery in speaking so openly about Bethany, who is clearly loved and appreciated by all who knew her. Bethany was a bubbly and outgoing young woman with her whole life ahead of her, who dreamed of a career with animals and had a passion for rugby. We hope this meaningful prayer for Hawkes gives the family some closure following the devastating loss of his daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, goddaughter and friend.
