Liyong Le Wiki – Liyong Le Biography
Liyong Le, the man accused of the brutal hammer attack that left a New York mother dead and her two young children critically injured has been taken to hospital for psychiatric evaluation. Liyong Le, 47, is under guard at Maimionides Midwood Community Hospital after police found him covered in blood outside the women’s apartment in the Sunset Park area of Brooklyn. Inside they found the body of 43-year-old Zhao Zhao and her three-year-old and five-year-old children, so badly injured that police reportedly took them directly to hospital instead of waiting for an ambulance. Patrol chief John Chell described the attack as “brutal” and said the children are “fighting for their lives”. “I think I can speak for all New Yorkers when I can say our community, our prayers are with this family at this time,” he added. He lived with her 9-year-old son in a room he sublet from Zhao in the 52nd Street apartment, and neighbors reported hearing them have a series of heated arguments in recent weeks.
Liyong Le is 47 years old.
Restaurant waiter Louis Lin, 33, said he was terrified when police arrived and saw the hallway “covered in blood.” He said the two boys were David, five, and Yaya, three, who had many young friends in the building. They were “so adorable,” he told the New York Times. ‘How could this be?’ Zhao’s husband, who worked at a restaurant in Ohio, is believed to be heading to Langone Hospital in New York, where her children are in intensive care. Police said they were called to reports of an assault at the second-floor apartment, which is also sublet to another tenant, just before 3 p.m. Wednesday. When the police arrived, a neighbor recorded them holding the bodies of seriously injured children. “I don’t think we should wait,” one said to the other. ‘Go! Oh! replied his colleague before they both ran towards the stairs carrying the children. State Senator Iwen Chu said the victims and the suspect were from China’s Fujian province and that Le’s young son likely witnessed the attack.
Sen Chu said that after the murder, he called the third roommate and said, “Come pick up my son.” “He’s sad from every angle,” he added. “My office will remain in close contact with the police and see how we can address this to help the family of the victim, as well as the son of the perpetrator.” Chief Chell said he had recovered a hammer from the scene and condemned a “horrific and senseless act of violence that took the life of a married mother of two.” “I can describe it as a small apartment,” he told reporters. “Three rooms occupied by three separate families, if you will, so, you know, tight quarters. “I don’t know what the dispute was about, but we’ll figure it out.” Le, who has no criminal record in New York, has been charged with murder, two counts of attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon. “We all need to pray for these little kids,” New York State Assemblyman Lester Chang said. ‘It is very rare in our community to have this type of violence. ‘These two little boys are fighting for their lives. And I can only imagine what the father will have to go through.’
