The tragic incident took place at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Tennessee on February 6, after officers responded to a 911 call about a woman refusing to leave the hospital. Upon police arrival, Edwards could be seen begging and pleading with officers to “stop,” “I’m going to pass out,” and, at one point, even telling officers, “They’re going to kill me.” .” Despite Edwards’ desperate pleas, the Knoxville officers refused to listen to her and continued to handle the situation with cruelty and negligence. Disabled woman dies of stroke
Knoxville police released the torturous hour-long video in which Edwards could be heard telling an officer that she needs to sit down before being escorted to the police vehicle. Meanwhile, the policeman responds by telling her to “help them help her”. One policeman can be heard telling him that she has “received medical clearance” before another says “you didn’t have any breathing problems when you were here smoking a cigarette,” the Daily Mail reported. Gasping and gasping, Edwards tells officers that “wait”. and she adds: “I’m going to pass out” and the officer tells her “you’re going to get in there one way or another.”
The grisly footage shows the officers trying to push her into the vehicle before telling her that she “will get more charges” and another adds that they are “tired of dead weight crap from her.” At one point, Edwards tells the officer that she “help me up please,” as the cops threaten to shut the door on her. In her last moments, the frail Edwards could be heard telling officers, “They’re going to kill me.” However, when Edwards and her officers finally reached the highway to transport her to the Roger Wilson Detention Center, officers stopped another car for reckless driving.
The cops soon discover that Edwards is unresponsive in the back before trying to yell “she wakes up” several times. The officers call an ambulance for more help, but Edwards does not respond. Following the release of the images, the Edwards family could not “believe the way they were treating her”, adding that she “did not deserve to be treated like this, no one does”.
“It’s totally irrelevant how she got to where she was that morning, but this whole situation that’s played out over an extended period of time is horrible, absolutely horrible,” said Edwards’ daughter-in-law, August Boylan, who is a nurse. . . “Police officers may not have intentionally done anything criminal to make something happen to him, but they were definitely negligent and disrespectful of human life, basic needs, nothing,” he told WATE.
No charges filed against the officers
“You don’t have to be a medical professional to know what the signs of a stroke are. And you can see it in her, from start to finish,” August said. “She, I mean, she said it herself, that she was dying, that she was having a stroke,” he added. The Knox County District Attorney’s Office announced that no charges will be filed against the officers. According to the prosecutor’s office, Edwards died of natural causes and police “interaction” did not contribute to her death. However, the department has launched an internal investigation and the officers involved are on paid leave. In a statement, they said: “The KPD extends its deepest and heartfelt condolences to the family of Lisa Edwards.”
