LeRoy Metoyer III, a Detroit man has been charged after prosecutors say he fatally assaulted a 1-year-old girl while babysitting her.
LeRoy Metoyer, 37, has been charged with one count of felony murder and one count of first degree child abuse. He was arraigned and sent to jail on Saturday, March 4 at the 36th District Court.

Justice Starks died of her injuries
The incident occurred in late November at a home in the 19200 block of Lancashire. Medics were called to the scene and transported Starks to a local hospital. 1-year-old Justice Starks died of her injuries several days later. The Wayne County Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be multiple blunt force trauma to the head.
Prosecutors say LeRoy was babysitting the 1-year-old when he assaulted her. EMS was called to the scene and transported the baby to a local hospital for treatment.
The prosecutor’s office says that more complete facts and evidence will be recorded in court at the preliminary examination. Metoyer III was arraigned on Saturday and placed in jail.
