A man was shot to death inside the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota, last month. A 17-year-old boy and his mother were taken to jail in connection with the incident on Tuesday, January 17. According to Bloomington Police Chief Booker Hodges, Lavon Longstreet was taken into custody by US Marshals at a residence in Decatur, Georgia. Longstreet is currently incarcerated on suspicion of second-degree murder and assault. He is waiting for his extradition.

The shooting took place on December 23, 2022 at a mall in Bloomington, Minnesota, and claimed the life of 19-year-old Johntae Hudson of St. Paul. Investigators say the shooting may be related to a “long-standing feud” between the two groups involved. A group of five to nine people got into an altercation at Nordstrom when one of the men pulled out a gun and shot the 19-year-old multiple times, police said. The mall was closed and eventually evacuated. Five other people, three 17-year-olds and two 18-year-old men were arrested in December and charged with the crime.
Erica McMillian, Longstreet’s mother, was also arrested Tuesday in Golden Valley, a city in the Minneapolis-St Paul metropolitan area, CBS News reported. It is suspected that the mother rushed Longstreet from Minnesota to Georgia after the shooting. Police Chief Hodges stated that she is jailed on accusations of aiding and abetting. Police said 30-year-old Eriajah Johnson was also taken into custody at the Decatur home on abetting and abetting charges.
