On Friday, Laura Ann Carleton, 66, was found with a gunshot wound at Ella Mag Pi’s store in Cedar Glen, California. A suspect, who fled the scene on foot, was killed by police when she found him nearby, allegedly still armed. Carleton was described as a “wonderful friend” by Hollywood director Paul Feig, who posted a picture of them together. The suspect made “derogatory comments” about the rainbow flag before shooting the victim, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies then located the suspect, armed with a handgun, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department-Coroner’s Department said. At this point, “an encounter of deadly force occurred and the suspect was pronounced dead.” Feig, known for movies like Bridesmaids and the TV series Freaks and Geeks, said he shot his friend after confronting the suspect about tearing down the flag.
