Kyle Knowles, 32, from Sherwood, was stabbed to death on a tram near the Highbury Well stop in Nottingham on Monday morning.

Minutes after police arrived on the scene, a 24-year-old man was arrested and taken to hospital with hand injuries. The suspect remains in custody and will be taken directly into the custody of Nottinghamshire Police for questioning when he is released from hospital. A statement issued today by the family of Mr. Knowles paid tribute to the victim as he continues to be assisted by specially trained officers. It read: ‘A devoted father and chef with a loving soul and brash character, who had yet to find his place on this earth. Now you’re back at the Stardust manufacturing site, reunited with the friends you once lost. ‘He left behind a loving mother, a father, three brothers and your children, who love you very much and will see you again one day. Until then, set the table and serve the drinks. In light of the incident, more visible patrols both on board and in the area have been increased and officers will continue to reassure the public and address any concerns they may have.

Identified victim of tram stabbing homicide investigation
Police say detectives are continuing a series of investigations by examining CCTV, speaking to witnesses and working with partners to understand what led to Mr Knowles’ tragic death. Detective Chief Inspector Claire Dean, who is leading the investigation, said: “Firstly, I would like to say that our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr Knowles in what has been an incredibly difficult time for all of us. It is time to meet him.” . We know that what happened Monday is causing concern in the community, but I want to reassure people that we have a highly-skilled team of detectives working very hard to determine the circumstances of this tragic incident. Knowles was stabbed on Nottingham Express Transit at 11:10 a.m. Monday as the tram approached the Highbury Well stop in Basford, the city’s northern suburbs. Eyewitnesses said a man pulled a knife from the rickshaw and started waving it at people, when passengers shouted at the driver to stop. Some described the car as a ‘blood saint’.
The DCI dean, addressing fear among community members, reiterated that police are investigating the incident and do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public. The incident took place on a tram with other passengers and staff on board and we know how what people saw on Monday has affected them, so we are educating people about the Notts Victim CARE system where they can speak to a trained professional.
